Coronation Street Michelle Keegan: It's the most romantic thing ever
Feb 4, 2010

Tina gets a marriage proposal from Jason. Is she expecting it?
"It comes totally out of the blue for her. On Valentine’s Day, Jason cooks her a meal and gives her a present – it’s divorce papers to prove he’s divorcing Sarah. Tina thinks it’s the most romantic thing ever and goes out to buy some champagne. When she gets back, he goes down on one knee and proposes."
And does she accept?
"She says ‘yes’ on the spot, of course! She loves Jason. He’s good-looking and they get on really well. She’s sure that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him."
Isn’t she a bit young to be marrying?
"She’s only 19 so, yes, but she’s very mature for her age and, anyway, she doesn’t want to get married just yet. To her the engagement is proof of Jason’s commitment. It proves he’s moved on and Sarah’s no longer a threat."
What about that kiss with Nick? Would she really have done that if she were so committed to Jason?
"Actually that just proved to Tina how much she wanted to be with Jason. Nick’s good-looking, successful and sexy, but he’s her stepbrother and he’s David’s brother... It would be too messy."
Is Tina worried about how David will react to the news of her engagement?
"Of course she is. He’s not exactly going to be congratulating her, is he?"
Is she still concerned he might tell Jason about her and Nick?
"No, because David doesn’t actually know what happened between them."
The only thing spoiling her happiness is her dad’s absence. What does she think when Gail comes back from the Lakes without him?
"Gail says Joe got an offer of work in Cumbria and Tina doesn’t really have time to question it because next thing Jason proposes and she’s a bit distracted. But she is concerned about him and she doesn’t want to celebrate her engagement properly until he’s back. He’s the one person she really wants to tell."
Will Jason be able to help Tina cope when she finds out her dad is dead?
"I think she’ll try to deal with it on her own. She doesn’t get on with her mum and has always looked after her dad. They’re very, very close. His death is going to change everything for her... and possibly her relationship too."
