Coronation St actor Reece to quit the show

Actor Reece Dinsdale is to leave Coronation Street, despite being offered a big pay rise to stay, according to the News Of The World.

The paper reports that Dinsdale - who plays Gail Platt's current boyfriend Joe McIntyre - is leaving to avoid being typecast.

He made the decision even though show bosses offered to increase his £100,00 salary by a third.

"Reece has been a massive hit and top brass thought they could strike a long-term deal," a show source told the paper. "He was offered a massive pay rise but he turned it down.

"Executives were surprised. They wanted him to, but he's wriggled off the hook."

The 49-year-old - who sprang to fame alongside John Thaw in the 80s sitcom Home To Roost - joined the soap in April 2008.

Viewers have seen his character struggle with painkiller addiction following a back injury, and he is set for some dramatic storylines in the coming months.
