Sean Wilson: 'Coronation St's made on the cheap'

Coronation Street star turned cheesemaker Sean Wilson has claimed the ITV1 soap has to be made "on the cheap".

The actor played Martin Platt in the long-running soap until 2005 but has now turned his hand to making and promoting his range of Lancashire cheeses.

The 44-year-old told the Swindon Advertiser: "Television has shot itself in the foot at the moment, it has spent a lots of money on the wrong things and has to now make things on the cheap, or in a reality show format.

"It's fair to say Coronation Street has had to take that route but I had a lovely 21 years there."

Sean, who runs the Saddleworth Cheese Company, denied that he had retired from acting.

"If you are out of showbusiness for a while, agents just don't ring you as much," he added.

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street did not wish to comment on Sean's remarks.
