Simon Gregson
Plays Steve McDonald
Born Simon Gregory in Manchester on 2 October 1974 to policeman dad, Alan, and bank clerk mum, Joy. Simon is an only child and he had no acting experience when he auditioned for the part of Steve in Coronation Street at the age of 14.
Simon was suspended from the show in 1995 after he admitted being addicted to cocaine, but he cleaned up his act and returned 18 months later.
Outside the soap, Simon is interested in water skiing, speedboats and cars, and he also went for his pilot’s licence in 1998. He is engaged to cleaning firm boss, Emma Gleave, who he met at on-screen mum Beverley Callard’s pub in Salford in 2006. Emma is expecting their first child in July 2007.
