Sunita Alahan
Sunita first apeared on the Street in 2001, as Vikram Desai's cousin escaping an arranged marriage. She is maternal and caring, but prone to nerves and depression, which isn't helped by husband Dev's carefree ways.
2001 Arrives, seeking refuge with Vikram after escaping from an imminent arranged marriage. Falls for older chap Duggie Ferguson.
2002 Left distraught by Duggie's sudden death. But soon starts to develop feelings for Dev Alahan.
2003 Irish barman Ciaran McCarthy woos her, but when he is arrested for going AWOL she resumes her relationship with Dev. Ciaran's return ruins that and when he proposes she accepts. However, she jilts them on their wedding day when she realises he doesn't relaly love her.
2004 Is disturbed by Dev's engagement to lawyer Maya, but is soon delighted when Dev dumps Maya and proposes to her. Marries Dev, but is arrested for bigamy thanks to a twisted plan by Maya. Is released but then kidnapped by Maya and trapped as the shop burns down. Survives.
2005 Falls pregnant with twins, but is horrified to learn Dev is already the father of four children. Walks out on him.
2006 Gives birth to twins Aadi and Asha, but leaves Weatherfield to get away from Dev.
2009 Returns after Dev tracks her down and finds she's engaged. But his ardour wins her over.
2010 Gets back together with Dev. Almost dies when trapped in The Kabin after the gas explosion and tram crash.

Shobna was born in 1966 in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Her father is a doctor who emigrated from India.
