Jane was born on November 8 1978 and grew up in Bury, Lancashire. Her mum Lynn is a care worker and her dad Jack is a bricklayer. Jane has an elder brother, Paul, and a younger sister, Alison.
Jane joined the Oldham Theatre Workshop when she was 10 and had her first screen role the following year in gritty drama GBH. She auditioned for the role of Leanne when she was 18 and stayed in the show for four years before quitting to try other things.
Jane joined hospital drama A&E as nurse Sam Docherty and later played PC Gemma Osbourne in cop show The Bill. Coronation Street producers were keen to have her back and she returned as Leanne after four years away.
Jane married former Emmerdale star Robert Beck in December 2005 and they had a son, Harry, in July 2006.
