They fought over Frank - now Pat and Peggy will be at loggerheads over a new love interest when Harvey Freeman arrives in Albert Square.
Martin Jarvis plays Harvey, a 60-something freelance journalist for the Walford Gazzette, who meets Peggy and Pat while writing about the local elections, for which both Peggy and Pat are both running for Councillor.
Will the Walford matriarchs allow a man to come between their friendship yet again?
Martin will be known to TV fans for roles in A Touch of Frost, Doctor Who, The Bill and Micawber.
He also starred in the blockbuster movie, Titanic.
Speaking of joining EastEnders, Martin said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be a potential thorn between two roses working with two actresses I greatly admire and have had the pleasure of working with before.
"I'm delighted to be reunited with Pam and Barbara and to have a part in EastEnders."
Diederick Santer, executive producer, added: "I'm delighted that the wonderful and charming Martin Jarvis will be joining us in Walford, and I can't wait to see his scenes with Barbara and Pam."
Martin will appear on screen in May.
