Pat gets new theme tune for EastEnders exit
31/12/2011 - 07:00

EastEnders stalwart Pat Evans will bow out from the soap on New Year's Day with a specially reworked version of the theme tune to mark the end of her 25-year stint in Albert Square.
The character is set to make an emotional departure just a few days after being diagnosed with terminal cancer - with the new version of the music - called Pat's Theme - played over the closing credits.
It is not the first time a character has been given their own departure music.
A special version of the music - named Julia's Theme after show creator Julia Smith - has been used in previous episodes, while a new version of the theme was written when Peggy Mitchell - played by Barbara Windsor - left the show in 2010.
It will not be the only change to the show on New Year's Day.
A new version of the title sequence is set to be unveiled, which features Stratford's Olympic Park in the graphics for the first time.
"As we say farewell to over a legend of 26 years we welcome in what will be a truly remarkable year in E20 by adding the Olympic village into the opening title sequence," a spokesperson told the BBC News website.
