As hard as nails, Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) always seems at war with the world. She's always paying for the many mistakes she's made in her life and looks for solutions to her problems in the bottom of a bottle, preferably vodka.

2006 Accidentally reunited with son Deano Wicks and daughter Carly Wicks after abandoning them years earlier. They don't know who she is.
2007 Turns up in Walford. Deano and Carly are stunned to discover she's their mum but eventually reconcile. Reveals to ex Kevin Wicks he's not their real father. Meets Vinnie Monks when he runs her over on her way to Deano's trial for framing Sean Slater. Sees Deano jailed. Dumps Vinnie when she discovers he lied to her. Kevin dies in her arms after crashing one of Phil Mitchell's dodgy motors.
2008 Rejected by daughter Carly, who leaves to travel the world. Deano is released from prison but also rejects her and leaves Walford. Phil supports her when she thinks she has breast cancer (she doesn't). They sleep together and she's hurt when he says it was a mistake. Reunited with Vinnie but relationship ends when he realises she loves Phil. Exposes Phil's lover, Suzy Branning, as a liar.
2009 Cheers up mate Heather Trott by taking her to George Michael's house (but it's the wrong house). Rekindles affair with Phil, but ends it when she realises he doesn't care for her. Wrongly sacked from the Vic when Billy says she stole money (it was him). Gets job in chippy. Discovers Heather's pregnant and suggests adoption but then agrees to help her raise the baby.
Aug 2010 Goes through hell trying to get Phil to stop taking crack cocaine after discovering her sister Rainie has got him addicted.
Nov 2010 Steals Roxy's wedding money, which Phil uses to buy a house for them.

Linda was born in 1963 and brought up in Peckham, south London. She was a successful stage actress in her younger years and has worked with the Royal National Theatre.
