Peggy Mitchell

The matriarch of the Mitchell clan, Peggy won’t take any nonsense – especially from her wayward ‘boys’ Phil and Grant. She may be a tough mum at home, but she won’t let anyone else criticise her family and will defend them to the last.

Actor Profile

Barbara Windsor

Born Barbara Ann Deaks in Shoreditch, east London on August 6 1937, Barbara's dad, John, drove a bus and her mum, Rose, was a dressmaker. Her parents split up when she was a teenager and she lost touch with her dad.

Best known as the giggling 'saucy!' star of British comedy 'Carry On...' films, Barbara was a popular stage star before making her name in the movies. Her first film role was as a schoolgirl in Belles of St Trinian’s in 1954. After a lean time in the early 90s, Barbara took over the role of Peggy Mitchell in 1994 from actress Jo Warne who played Peggy in 1991.

Barbara has been married three times, including a long marriage to London gangster Ronnie Knight. She currently lives in central London with her third husband Scott Mitchell.
