Echo Beach Moving Wallpaper

If you have ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of your favourite soap then this new TV concept is probably as close as you'll get to finding out.

Echo Beach is a new post-watershed soap-style drama, set in Cornwall, while earlier show Moving Wallpaper is a comedy that follows the fictionalised crew who make it. Got that? The interlinking drama and comedy screen back to back on ITV1 with plots, characters and jokes crossing over between the two.

Echo Beach sees much-loved soap stars Jason Donovan and Martine McCutcheon return to their roots playing ex-lovers Daniel and Susan. When Daniel returns to the town of Polnarren it rocks the foundations of Susan's marriage and her husband Mark (The Full Monty's Hugo Speer) will stop at nothing to get rid of him.

On the other side of the camera, in Moving Wallpaper, the hapless producer Jonathan Pope (Ben Miller, of Armstrong and Miller), is pushing his creative team to the limit. The comedy features its own independent set of mismatched characters as well as cameos by the Echo Beach actors playing sent-up versions of themselves.

Producer Jonathan Pope claims the concept will 'change the face of British television for ever'.

It was created by writer Tony Jordan, who should know what the world of soaps is all about - he has 20 years experience on EastEnders.

"My dream was always to have Jason Donovan and Martine McCutcheon," he says. "They were written before we'd even sold the show because, to me, that was the dream soap."

And it seems Jason Donovan was just as excited about the series. "When I read Echo Beach I liked it and when I read Moving Wallpaper, I rang my agent straight away."
