Emmerdale hat-trick makes up for Soap Awards snub

Emmerdale has scored a hat-trick, landing three prizes at the TV Choice Awards.

After being snubbed at the British Soap Awards earlier this year, Emmerdale landed titles for best soap actor for Danny Miller and best soap newcomer for Adam Thomas. It collected best soap storyline for the sexual awakening and journey of his character Aaron.

EastEnders shared the spoils by collecting the top soap prize in a year that saw its first live episode, as well as best soap actress for Lacey Turner's portrayal of young mum Stacey Branning.

The half-century old rival Coronation Street was also the toast of the awards in London as it picked up an honorary prize to mark its 50 years on screen.

The event - hosted by Alexander Armstrong at London's Dorchester Hotel - also rewarded shows such as Doctor Who, Total Wipeout and Britain's Got Talent.

Karen Gillan, who plays the Doctor's assistant Amy Pond, collected the best family drama prize on behalf of the Doctor Who team.

Eighties cop drama Ashes To Ashes was named best drama while best new drama went to hit US musical comedy Glee.

Total Wipeout, the Argentina-based challenge in which competitors have to tackle a fiendish assault course and the notorious 'big red balls', was named best gameshow.

Britain's Got Talent triumphed over Dancing On Ice, Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor to land the best TV talent show prize. James Corden and Ruth Jones's BBC1 series Gavin And Stacey was named best comedy.

Waterloo Road favourite Denise Welch was named best actress while Jack O'Connell from Skins was best actor and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! was named best reality show.
