James leaves Emmerdale with a pint at the Woolpack

Emmerdale star James Thornton has sipped his last pint in the Woolpack pub on a 'very emotional' day's filming.

The actor, who joined the soap in July 2009 as farmer John Barton, announced in November that he was leaving.

James tweeted: "Just finished my last scene in the Woolpack before I leave! Very emotional."

James, who is married to Gavin And Stacey star Joanna Page, also posted a snap of himself behind the bar in the fictional pub, clutching a pint of ale.

When James revealed he was quitting, he said he'd 'decided to leave on a high with a big exit storyline in 2012'.

His character John was devastated when he found out Moira (Natalie J Robb) had an affair with village bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), but producers have hinted the couple may get back together in coming months - if even for a short while.
