Trudie Goodwin won't be in Emmerdale long term

Trudie Goodwin has insisted she will not be staying long in Emmerdale.

The 59-year-old actress - best known for playing Sgt June Ackland in axed police drama The Bill - is joining the soap as Georgia Sharma, the mother of Jai and Nikhil.

But Trudie told the TV Times: "I'm not going to to be here for years and years. I'm not doing that again!

"I would never have signed a contract for more than three months, but apart from anything else, they might not want me after that time!"

She added: "I don't like the idea of being in something for the long term. I'm doing all the things I missed out on while I was in The Bill, like working in theatre, which I love.

"At the moment, I almost don't want a terribly easy life."

Trudie's character George is set to clash with her future daughter-in-law Charity Tate (Emma Atkins) over her wedding plans to Jai.
