Carl King
Originally one of four brothers, Carl King (Tom Lister) is one of the two surviving sons of Tom King. And, of the two, he's the one with the killer instinct... Well, he DID kill his father!
Marriages Colleen (divorced), Lexi (separated)
Children Thomas, Anya
2004 The first member of the King family to arrive in the village, Carl appears on 6 February. Works undercover as a driver for the Tates so he can feed his family details of their haulage business and snatch a big contract from them. Cheats the women who lust after him, too, by pretending he's single. Wife Colleen arrives with their two children: the truth is out - and their marriage is over. Immediately attracted to Chastity Dingle. Accidentally causes the death of postman Paul Marsden, but his brothers convince him to cover up his involvement.
2005 Dates Chas but she leaves to join the Army. Dates her cousin Del, who realises he's still in love with Chas and encourages him to bring her back to the village. Youngest brother Max dies in car crash.
2006 Chas moves into the King home and he proposes. Tom thinks Chas isn't good enough for Carl and forces her to dump him. Tom's killed on Christmas Day.
2007 Discovers he has a half-sister, Scarlett Nicholls, whose mother, Carrie, nursed his dying mother. It's revealed that Carl slept with Carrie once, as a teenager. Like father, like son! Carl, Jimmy and Matthew put on trial in May for the murder of their father but the case collapses. Afterwards, Carl confesses to his brothers: he'd argued with Tom over his relationship with Chas, hit him with a statue and pushed him, causing Tom to fall from a window. Tortured by guilt, Carl later confesses to DCI Grace Barraclough - his lover! - and they're on their way to the cop shop when she's killed in a road accident. Carl decides he's got away with it.
2008 Fed up with being dictated to by his brothers, Carl goes to work for Donald De Souza. Ends up betraying Donald's trust to help his brothers win an investment but it's a futile gesture; the King brothers are bankrupt by the end of the year. Carl, believing Matthew is double-crossing the family, tells Matthew's fiancée, Anna De Souza, how Matthew left her father to die when he had a heart attack. Matthew tries to hit Carl with a car but crashes and dies.
2009 After an on-off relationship with Lexi Nicholls, they marry - mainly because he believes she'll tell everyone he killed his father if they don't (she found out from her mother, Carrie). After Lexi suffers an ectopic pregnancy he tells her he has never loved her. Convinces Chas she's the one he wants.
2010 Embarks on a torrid affair with Eve Jenson, despite becoming engaged to Chas, who finds out about it and plans a drawn-out revenge. Chas proposes to a delighted Carl and they prepare to marry on Christmas Day, although Chas says 'No!' at the altar and his dream life comes crashing down around him.
