Jobs Working at Pollard's factory and as an office assistant for the Kings.

2000 A long-time resident of the village, the widow gets up everyone’s noses with her disapproving comments.

2001 Rebellious granddaughter Eve comes to stay but Edna kicks her out when Eve assaults her beloved Yorkshire terrier Batley.

2002 Devastated when Batley falls ill and has to be put down.

2003 Takes in devious builder Mack and gets him a job doing the church roof but he does a runner with the money. Len Reynolds falls in love with her but she spurns his advances.

2004 Mortified when Len discovers her grandmother was a prostitute. Knocked down and left for dead by Sam Dingle. A repentant Sam confesses and is jailed but Edna accepts his heartfelt apology.

2006 Reconciles with son Peter at Eve's wedding but sees sister Lily at the ceremony and admits to boss Tom King that Lily is Peter's real mother. Falls for Tom but is humiliated by him and becomes a virtual recluse.

Shirley Stelfox

Born in Dukinfield, Cheshire on April 11 1941, Shirley has had a long and varied career and has appeared in everything from cult TV show Z Cars in the 1960s, to playing the first Rose Bucket in the sitcom Keep Up Appearances. She has also appeared in many soaps, including Coronation Street, Crossroads, Family Affairs and Brookside. Shirley was married to the actor Don Henderson from 1979 until his death in 1997. She has two step-children and a daughter and currently lives in Nottinghamshire.
