Hollyoaks character invades Wretch 32 gig

Wretch 32 is set to make his debut in soapland with an unusual appearance in Hollyoaks.

The chart-topping rapper's private gig at Bankside Vaults in London got interrupted when character Bart McQueen (played by Jonny Clarke) stomps on stage during the performance of No 1 single Don't Go, to blurt out his feelings for long-time sweetheart Sinead O'Connor (Stephanie Davis).

"No one had any idea. There were a lot of priceless looks," Wretch (real name Jermaine Scott) told The Sun.

Jonny added: "It was absolutely awesome. The adrenaline was pumping and we didn't know how the crowd would react, but they loved it. It was just awesome. What an amazing, exciting stunt to be a part of. I loved every minute."

Bart desperately tries to win back Sinead's affections after their blossoming romance hits the rocks when he is caught kissing his transgender ex-lover Jason Costello (Victoria Atkin).

But with Sinead about to leave the village with new love Gaz (Joel Goonan), Bart attempts to make the ultimate romantic gesture and aims to enlist the musician to help him.

The live stunt, in scenes which will be shown on Channel 4 on November 11 at 6.30pm, made TV history.

"Invading a live music gig was such an exciting prospect because it not only allowed us to associate Hollyoaks with a cool of-the-moment music act like Wretch 32, but also allowed us to deliver a story in real time and interact and engage with the audience," said producer Emma Smithwick.
