Hollyoaks' McCarthy signs up for Oscar Wilde film
02/07/2009 - 12:05

Hollyoaks' actor Gerard McCarthy will star in The Louis Vuitton Bag, a modern day adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan.
Gerard, who plays cross-dresser Kris Fisher in the Channel 4 soap, has been given the go ahead by Hollyoaks bosses to appear in the 90-minute film, which begins shooting this month.
Gerard is thrilled to have landed a role in The Louis Vuitton Bag, a tale of blackmail, infidelity and recession in Dublin.
He said on Wednesday: "I'm delighted to be on board. The Louis Vuitton Bag is a sexy, modern, contemporary look at an Oscar Wilde classic."
Gerard also confirmed that he will be staying with Hollyoaks until 2010, quashing rumours that he is to leave the soap.
He stated: "I love my character Kris Fisher. He is so 'out there', in your face and ready to shock at every turn. Every day he creates a new drama so who knows what the unconventional Kris will trigger in 2010."
The Louis Vuitton Bag will be directed by Karl Golden and produced by Samson Films, the production company behind the 2008 Oscar-winning film Once.
