Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee in new lesbian role

Former Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee - who played feisty Louise Summers in the soap - will appear as a lesbian in a new BBC Three drama.

Roxanne will play a character called Lou in Lip Service - which show bosses describe as "about the sex lives and love affairs of twenty-something lesbians living in contemporary Glasgow".

Roxanne's part is a "major supporting role" in the show, which also stars The Boys Are Back actress Laura Fraser, The Tudors star Ruth Gedmintas and The Palace's Fiona Button.

Writer and creator Harriet Braun said: "All of these characters are very close to my heart, so to have found such a great cast who bring them to life so fantastically is very exciting."

BBC Scotland drama boss Anne Mensah added: "The series takes a very vivid and authentic look at the lives and loves of modern British gay women on the cusp of life.

"The quality of the cast that the scripts have brought to the table really speaks for itself and Lip Service promises to be an emotionally-charged and utterly enjoyable drama series."

Roxanne is set to return to screens in the show in spring 2010.
