Neighbours' Alan: I told Lily to flirt lots

Neighbours star Alan Fletcher told Lily Allen not to hold back on flirting with him on screen because it would help his street cred no end.

The actor, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy in the Five soap, filmed a scene with the pop star earlier this year, which saw the pair engage in some coquettish banter.

Alan said: "There was a little bit of a flirtation between Dr Karl and Lily which was an awful lot of fun to play - I said to her before our take, 'Feel free to flirt as much as you like 'cos it does my credit an enormous amount of good!'"

He said Lily took to acting easily, despite the 'extremely daunting' number of people watching her shoot the scene.

"There she was sitting in the studio in a scene with only three people," he said. "For some unknown reason the studio suddenly filled up where every single person in the building turned up to watch her scene. It was an extremely daunting baptism of fire for her, which she handled brilliantly. She was a one-take wonder."

He described the Smile singer as 'such a dolly girl' and a 'sweetheart', before adding: "The Neighbours cast all charged down and saw her concert in Melbourne which was thoroughly entertaining and joyous. I love her lyrics and I love her style."
