New BBC One soap Out of the Blue moves to BBC2

Wednesday 7th May

The BBC's new daytime soap Out of the Blue is to be moved from BBC One to BBC Two to 'find a stronger home' for the Australian-based show.

A BBC spokesman said that its current time slot of around 2pm weekdays on BBC One was a 'very competitive slot'.

"We're very happy with it, but we think it will find a stronger home [at 1pm on BBC Two]," he said. "It's a bold and original format, in a beautiful location, with a strong murder-mystery plot."

The multi-million pound series had started with encouraging reviews and an audience of around 1.2million, but this had dropped to 900,00 viewers by the middle of last week.

Asked about its longterm future, the spokesman said that the BBC was not thinking beyond its initial six-month, 130-episode season.

Out of the Blue will screen on BBC Two each weekday except Wednesday from Monday, May 19.
