Ah, so that’s why Dr Zoe Hanna resigned as Deputy Clinical Lead in the A&E department at Holby Hospital…

Actress Sunetra Sarker, 41, who has played  Zo in the BBC1 medical drama Casualty since 2007, has been confirmed as the seventh contestant for this year’s line-up of Strictly Come Dancing.

On taking part in the ballroom talent show, Sunetra said: “I don’t quite know what I’ve let myself in for… I’m in total denial. But the chance to swap my stethoscope for sequins was just too tempting. I am very excited to be part of the Strictly team.”

Sunetra will be joining Mark Wright, who shot to fame on reality show The Only Way Is Essex, singers Simon Webbe and Frankie Sandford, former rugby player Thom Evans, TV presenter Alison Hammond, tennis ace Andy Murray’s mum Judy and eight other celebrities – yet to be named – as they compete for the glitter ball trophy.

Strictly Come Dancing, BBC1, will return in the autumn.
