Gillian Taylforth says she’s pleased to be ditching the police uniform she wore on The Bill for the sequined costumes she’ll wear on Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Bill star, who also starred in ITV’s Footballers’ Wives, has been revealed as one of the 16 famous faces taking part in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Gillian, who recently quit her role as Sergeant Nikki Wright in ITV’s long-running police drama, said: “The costumes are beautiful. I’m just looking forward to wearing a few frocks – I haven’t worn anything like that since Footballers’ Wives!”

Gillian, who also played Kathy Beale in EastEnders, will be competing against Jessie Wallace and Phil Daniels, who played Kat Slater and Kevin Wicks in the soap.

But she insists there’s no rivalry… yet. “It’s not about being competitive with one another because we’re all becoming really good friends,” she said, before cheekily adding: “But wait till the end – I’ll be putting grease on the floor and saying to the other female contestants: ‘Oh, what a shame there’s a hole in your tights’.”

The sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing launches on Saturday, September 20 on BBC1.
