Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ruth Langsford joked she “looked like a baby elephant” as she leapt into her partner’s arms during the launch show

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ruth Langsford joked she “looked like a baby elephant” as she leapt into her professional dance partner’s arms during the launch show.

Ruth, 57, discovered she will dance with Anton Du Beke during Saturday’s launch show of the BBC1 hit.

Following host Tess Daly’s announcement of their partnering, Ruth and Du Beke embraced – with Ruth enthusiastically throwing her legs around him.

She told ITV’s Loose Women: “And then I didn’t know how to get down. I looked like a baby elephant and then Bruno (Tonioli) went like this ‘Oohhh’.”

The This Morning presenter said her new partner was “such good fun, he’s a brilliant dancer and fantastic teacher”.

She had previously said she would “rub up next to anything I can” in a bid to make her husband Eamonn Holmes jealous.

“I hope so!”, she said when asked by the Loose Women panel if Eamonn would be jealous seeing her dance with another man.

She also revealed Anton had recorded a short video clip for Eamonn saying: “She’s mine now.”

She added: “I’ve talked on here (before), I’m a very jealous woman, I couldn’t stand it if he was rubbing up against one of those young dancers!”

The show’s presenter Tess Daly broke into tears during Saturday night’s heart-wrenching tribute to late former host, Sir Bruce Forsyth.

The other celebrity pairings announced were: JLS singer Aston Merrygold and Janette Manrara, Paralympian Jonnie Peacock and Oti Mabuse, entertainer Brian Conley and Amy Dowden and EastEnders star Davood Ghadami and Nadiya Bychkova.

Holby City star Joe McFadden will partner Katya Jones, Rev Richard Coles and Dianne Buswell are a dance pairing, TV chef Simon Rimmer and Karen Clifton are a pair and singer Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez will be a dancing couple.

Also paired together are: newsreader Charlotte Hawkins and Brendan Cole, actress Chizzy Akudolu and Pasha Kovalev, Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice, soap star Gemma Atkinson and Aljaz Skorjanec, The Saturdays’ Mollie King and AJ Pritchard and comedian Susan Calman and Kevin Clifton.
