It’s the Strictly Come Dancing Final on Saturday night – and this year’s final four have hinted about what viewers can expect from their hotly anticipated showdances.

Tonight in the Strictly Come Dancing Final, Joe McFadden, Gemma Atkinson, Alexandra Burke and Debbie McGee will battle it out to lift the coveted glitterball trophy.

Each celebrity and their professional partner will perform two dances – one from the series chosen by the Strictly judges, then each couple will choose their own favourite dance of the series.

The third routine – and the standout performance of any Strictly final – is the showdance. And it sounds like this year fans are in for a real treat…

Joe and his professional partner Katya Jones will be dancing to You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates. “It’s very Christmassy, we’ve gone with a big story, there’s slow dancing, fast dancing,” said Katya. “He’s got a solo and there’s lots of surprises.”

Gemma and her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec will be dancing to Show Me How You Burlesque by Christina Aguilera. Aljaz revealed: “It’s basically paying tribute to our whole Strictly story really, how much Gemma has improved in her confidence; just her being a really strong woman from day one and now being a strong woman while she’s dancing. It suits Gemma really well and hopefully it will be incredible on the night.”

Debbie and her pro-partner Giovanni Pernice will be dancing to One Day I’ll Fly Away by Vaults. Teasing her showdance, Debbie said: “When we did Memory from Cats for Musicals Week, it was quite emotive and this dance is like that. It’s very elegant but it’s also very emotional, so I think as a last dance it’s a very nice swansong.”

Giovanni – who’s nicknamed Debbie ‘Flexi McGee’ – couldn’t resist teasing: “We’ll do a lift and some more splits – hey, why not?”

Meanwhile, Alexandra and her partner Gorka Marquez are bringing a touch of Hollywood glamour to the Strictly final, dancing to There’s No Business Like Showbusiness by Ethel Merman.

Strictly Alexandra Gorka

“We want to do something fun, quick, fast and with a lot of tricks,” said Gorka, with Alexandra adding: “Gorka has me leaping across the dancefloor the whole time. But I love it. I prefer the upbeat dances, so I’m really pleased.”

When asked what it would mean to them to win the glitterball, Alexandra captured the mood of all four finalists. “It kinda leaves me a bit speechless and overwhelmed that we’re even here, so the fact that we’re at this point is a massive, massive achievement,” she said.

“We’re all winners, the fact we’re here at this point, and we’ve achieved so much. We’re all trying. There’s no expectations, just high hopes, we just want to do the best we can on the night, don’t let nerves get the better of us and what will be, will be.”

Strictly Come Dancing Final is on Saturday December 16 at 6.40pm on BBC1.
