Week five of Strictly Come Dancing saw DJ Scott Mills and tennis coach Judy Murray at the bottom of the leaderboard… But in a shock result after the public vote,  it was model Thom Evans and singer Simon Webbe who faced each other in the dance-off.

It was a massive shock when Scott survived to the next round – to him and everyone else. “I thought I’d be going,” Scott admitted…

And Judy looked happily surprised to go straight through to week six.

“It’s nonsensical,” said head judge Len Gooman when Thom was told he faced the dance-off. “You should;t be in the bottom two. There’s loads worse than you.”

Unfortunately for Thom, Simon wasn’t one of them…

After Thom had cha cha cha’d again with Iveta Luko, and Simon had spun out his Viennese Waltz with Kristina Rihanoff, the judges had to decide – and they admitted it wasn’t easy.

“This is a nasty one,” said Craig Revel Horwood, “but I’m saving Thom and Iveta.”

“I don’t think we should have to choose between these two,” said Darcey Bussell, “but I’m saving Thom and Iveta.”

“If it was up to me, they both would stay,” said Bruno Tonioli. “But the most polished of the two was Simon and Kristina.”

So, head judge Len had the final say…

“I look at the footwork,” Len said, “and the couple with the cleanest footwork were Simon and Kristina.”

And that meant Thom was out.
