Strictly Come Dancing star Susan Calman has compared trying to remember dancing steps to juggling fish

Strictly Come Dancing star Susan Calman has compared trying to remember dancing steps to juggling fish!

The 42-year-old star, who’s dancing with her idol Kevin Clifton, also told TV Times she’s pleased to discover that she’s not an awful dancer.

“It’s mind-blowing. It’s like juggling fish, trying to remember the steps and the performance at the same time. I’m doing things I never thought I’d be able to do and I’m quite surprised I’m not an awful dancer! I’ve got a bit of musicality and rhythm, I just keep putting my foot in the wrong place,” said Susan Calman, who’ll be going back to the jazz age with a Charleston on Saturday.

As to whether she’s bothered or not by the prospect of judge Craig Revel Horwood cutting her down to size, Susan seemed in two minds: “Every time I make a mistake in training I think, ‘I don’t want to do that on the live show because Craig will see it and I’ll be in trouble!’ But I think Craig having a go at you is part of the joy of Strictly. I don’t mind if he wants to have a pop at me.”

Meanwhile, Susan admitted it’s taken some time getting used to be glammed up for the BBC1 hit, which continues this Saturday.

“It was a bit of shock when
I saw myself in the mirror, because the reflection didn’t look like me. It’s taking some getting used to,
but it’s easier if I think of myself
as playing a part, like I would in
a sitcom. Everyone in the costume department is lovely, but they did show me a pair of seven-inch Latin heels and I told them perhaps they needed to lower their expectations!”
