Andrew Lloyd Webber is looking for a superstar, but not just your average superstar, a capital‘S’ Superstar. The good lord is embarking on a nationwide search on ITV1 – premiering Saturday, July 6 – for the actor/singer to play the title role of Jesus in the first ever UK arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. And the final decision will be in the hands of the British public. Auditions have taken place across the country in London, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. Melanie C and Jason Donovan joined Andrew during the early stages of the talent search and assisted as contender numbers were whittled down. Amanda Holden, the show’s host has been on hand throughoutthe later stages of the competition getting to know each of the contenders and helping them through the process. The most promising new talent that has impressed Andrew and his casting team will then go through to the live shows. Dawn French and Jason Donovan will join Andrew as judges for the liveshows, while Melanie prepares for her role as Mary Magdalene in the show. Who is the real Superstar? You decide... *Superstar screens on Saturday and Sunday for the first two weekends, before screening Monday-Friday from July 16. The winner will be crowned the following weekend.
