The Voice

Already a major hit in the US, The Voice finally comes to the UK on Saturday night. Hosted by Emma Willis and Marvin Humes, the show promises something different from those that have gone before as hopefuls are judged solely on their vocal ability - rather than their sob stories or silly haircuts. Just as the US series boasts big-name stars Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and country singer Blake Shelton as coaches (not judges!), the UK version also has some real star power as the singers will be chosen, mentored and trained by Sir Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas frontman, Kylie Minogue and Kaiser Chiefs' lead singer Danny O'Donoghue. What makes this show unique are its much talked-about'blind'auditions. The premise is simple: the coaches sit in big red chairs with their backs to the stage; they can't see the hopeful only hear their voice. If they like what they hear, they push a button to choose the singer for their team, their chair swivels around and they can see them. If none of the coaches turn around, the hopeful is out of the contest. But if two or more buzz in, that singer then gets to choose which mentor they wish to join. And that's when the competition really heats up. After each selecting their 10 favourite singers over four weeks of blind auditions, the coaches then develop them through two weeks of'battle rounds'and six weeks of live shows. In the grand finale, each coach will have one act left - and one of these will win the title of The Voice UK and a recording contract.

The Voice winners since the show began in 2012 are:

2014: Jermain Jackman

2013: Andrea Begley

2012: Leanne Mitchell
