X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has apparently signed a US record deal worth an estimated £3 million.

Top label Epic snapped up the 20-year-old Londoner for a five-album deal after her Christmas single Hallelujah broke sales records.

Alex told The Sun newspaper: “I’d love to crack the US. After seeing Coldplay take away the awards at the Grammys I was so inspired.”

Music boss and X Factor judge Simon Cowell will help Alexandra follow in the footsteps of the show’s 2006 winner Leona Lewis and top charts the world over.

Alex’s Hallelujah was the fastest-selling download ever, beating Leona’s debut, A Moment Like This.

An industry insider said: “Epic think Alexandra can follow in Leona’s footsteps. The US market loves women with big voices – and Alex certainly has that. If she comes close to Leona’s success it will be a job well done.”

It is believed that Epic is planning a similar launch strategy to the one parent company Sony used to promote Leona Lewis.

Alex – who is up for Best Single for Hallelujah at next week’s Brit Awards – will release her debut album in the UK in November and it’s believed she will hit the States in early 2010.

She said: “I’m going to work my socks off to make an album this year that I hope people will love and I’m really proud of.”
