Simon Cowell is poised to return to the next series of The X Factor – via a satellite link-up.
According to the Mirror the mogul – who is currently a judge on the US version of the show – will appear live from Los Angeles during the live finals, in a bid to boost ratings when the show returns in the autumn.
And he may also be a part of the judges’ houses stage, to offer his opinions on which acts should make the finals.
The move is part of a bid to shake things up on the Saturday night show, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
“The aim is that he can be on the UK version every week but there will be restrictions as he will be very busy in the States mentoring his US acts,” a source told the paper.
“Simon knows that the viewers in the UK want him back on the show and he wants to make the tenth anniversary of The X Factor really special.
“He has made no secret of the fact that he wants to be a judge on both versions but it would mean travelling thousands of miles each week. It is impossible.
“He is working to find a decent compromise. He will still have his panel of four judges but he will be the extra factor.”
Simon has previously indicated he would be keen to return to the show – admitting he misses it.
“I’m definitely getting more involved and will have a role in the next series,” he said. “I’m not going to lie – I do miss it because it’s like my baby.
“It’s been difficult the last two years not being on the show as I always had a great time. So at some point of course I’m going to come back.”
A raft of changes are being planned for the next series of the X Factor – with speculation over the future of the judging panel.
Sharon Osbourne is being tipped to rejoin the judging panel, leaving a question mark hanging over Tulisa’s future as a judge.
However Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh are all rumoured to be returning.
