Dermot O’Leary has revealed that he has yet to sign up for the next series of The X Factor– sparking speculation that he could be axed as part of a shake-up of the show.
The presenter – who took over from previous host Kate Thornton in 2007 – broke the news to The Sun just days after Simon Cowell revealed he was planning changes for the next series that could see judges being axed.
“I’ve not signed yet,” he admitted. “The next month or so will be telling. I’ll either be doing it or I won’t.
But he remained non-committal when asked if he had a future on the show, saying, “You never know. That’s the thing working for Simon and working on that show.
Dermot added he had a busy year ahead, which included his forthcoming wedding to girlfriend Dee Koppang.
“I’ve got a lot of other things to do this year,” he said I’m getting married, so need to juggle all these things. But X Factor kicks off earlier for me than everyone else as I’m on board a bit before the judges, so we’ll see.”
However it could be the US version of the show – which was fronted by Steve Jones – which gets itself a new host rather than the UK version, after Simon admitted that if changes were to be made to that show it would have to be to the presenter.
Dermot, who had been tipped to present the US show, said he was no longer concerned about the job.
I would have liked to have had a crack at it and I could have done some good work out there but you deal with the reality in front of you,” he revealed.
