ITV may be forced to move The X Factor in the schedules because of clashes with the American version, according to reports.
Simon Cowell announced this week that he was quitting as a judge on American Idol to launch a US version of The X Factor.
But Fox TV wants The X Factor to be broadcast in autumn, which will cause problems for Simon if the UK series is shown at the same time.
A source told The Mirror: “Simon wants to stay making The X Factor in the UK as well as his American deal but he can’t be in two places at once.”
Insiders have claimed that, in 2011, The X Factor might be shown earlier in the year, swapping places with Dancing on Ice.
But ITV insisted that the popular talent show would be back in its usual slot later this year.
“We are absolutely planning for The X Factor to return this autumn and next,” it said in a statement.
On Tuesday, Simon spoke about leaving American Idol, saying: “I’ve been doing this for nine years and it’s been a blast.”
Those being rumoured as possible replacements for Simon on the show include Nigel Lythgoe, Jonathan Ross and Piers Morgan.
