Lewis Hamilton has reportedly begged girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger not to return to the judging panel of The X Factor – as it would mean them not seeing each other for several months.
The former Pussycat Doll – who steered James Arthur to victory in the 2012 series – is said to have been offered a £1.5m deal to rejoin the panel on the next series.
However it would clash with Lewis’s hectic Formula One schedule, which will see him racing in a string of countries between September and November.
The motor racing ace is due to compete in Singapore, Japan, India, Korea, Abu Dhabi and the US, among others – which would mean a three-month separation from Nicole if she did the show.
“Nicole and Lewis have the utmost respect for one another’s careers and will go out of their way to be there on big occasions,” a source told the Sunday People.
“But with most of the races in October, November and December outside Europe, they are genuinely going to struggle to meet up.
“Lewis has said to Nicole this is going to be an awful situation and perhaps she shouldn’t do it.
“If he thought she had her heart set on returning he wouldn’t say this but he knows she isn’t desperate to go back and thinks she would be happier if they were together.
“Nicole is also worried that she won’t see much of Lewis so it is a big factor that will deeply affect her decision.”
The singer is reportedly also concerned that the show will clash with her music career – with a single and album due out in November around the time the X Factor goes live.
“She has to promote her work everywhere so she’ll be forced to miss a lot of X Factor,” the insider pointed out.
“To some judges this wouldn’t be a problem but Nicole gives her all to the contestants.”
The future of the judging line-up remains undecided, with reports that Sharon Osbourne is set to return as a replacement for Tulisa Contostavlos.
Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow are also thought to be returning for the next series, which will begin in late summer.
