Jake, who exited The X Factor in 2012 at the judges’ houses, sang Daniel Merriweather’s “Red” and sounded nervous.
Only The Young took on the Abba number “Winner Takes It All” – and they took judges’ votes…just.
Mel saved her act. Louis saved his group.
Then it was Simon Cowell’s turn to vote.
“I don’t know what is going on in the sing-offs but they were both horrible,” Simon Cowell said after both performances. “Two weeks in a row they’ve been bad. But the act who I think has the most potential is Only The Young.”
So Cheryl had the deciding vote.
“I think that was a very passionate performance,” she told Jake. “You came out fighting.
“Only The Young, you haven’t really found your comfort zone yet. But tonight, based on who I think has the most potential going forward, I’m going to have to send home Jake.”
“Mel, what do you have to say about losing Jake?” presenter Dermot O’Leary asked her.
“You ask me now?” Mel shouted. “When I’m crying?”
Next week, it’s Halloween fright night on the show, and Cheryl’s singing.
The X Factor continues on ITV, Saturday, November 1, 8.00pm.
