The remaining X Factor contestants are hoping their festive performances are enough to secure them a place in next week's final.

The X Factor contestants will be hoping some festive spirit carries them through to next week’s final as they try to win their place with Christmas songs in tonight’s live show.

All the hopefuls will be unwrapping two numbers on tonight’s show in a bid to win a coveted place in the final three.

Matt Terry will sing hymn Silent Night and Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware while Emily Middlemas will perform John Lennon’s War Is Over and Tears For Fears’ Mad World.

Sara Aalto will be covering Mariah Carey’s hit All I Want For Christmas is You and Sia’s single Chandelier while boyband 5 After Midnight will take on East 17′s Stay Another Day and Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).

This week it was announced that Sara Aalto has broken a major record on the ITV entertainment stalwart, as she is the first act to land in the bottom two in week one and successfully make it through to the semi-finals, according to the Daily Mail.

The Finnish singer – who has been busy rehearsing ahead of tonight’s performance – has now become the most improved in popularity, a feat previously shared by Rylan Clark-Neal, Chico and Katie Waissell.

Last week, controversial rapper Honey G was knocked out of the competition after losing a sing-off with 5 After Midnight.

The singer, whose real name is Anna Georgette Gilford, failed to impress as she performed Tupac Shakur’s California Love which featured her trademark “When I say honey, you say G” chant.

Honey, who faced a backlash as critics questioned her seriousness as a musical act, got the boot after she was confronted by a man rushing on to the stage.

A prankster group called Trollstation later took credit for the stage invasion.

The X Factor is on ITV at 8pm.
