X Factor finalist Rachel Hylton hopes that viewers will not judge her over her troubled past, as she prepares to sing live first the first time.

Reformed drug addict Rachel, 26, fears that some people will already have written her off, unconvinced that she has really cleaned up her act.

Speaking exclusively to whatsontv.co.uk, Rachel said: “You’ll get people who’ll say: ‘You don’t deserve this, you’re just a junkie’. I think people have got this idea that I’ve just been in recovery for just two months but I’ve been clean a long time. It’s taken me years to build up my life.”

Rachel admitted that she quite likes life in front of the X Factor cameras – and insists she’s more than happy to be papped wearing no make-up. “I don’t want to live up to this expectation that the minute you come out of your door you’re full of slap. That’s not me. I want you to take pictures when I’ve got all my spots. I’m a real person.

“I just want to be normal Rachel – I’ll still go to Topshop and Primark.”
