Sophie Habibis says it was ‘heartbreaking’ to be voted off The X Factor by her own mentor Kelly Rowland.
Despite having remained in the US on doctor’s orders, viewers heard the former Destiny’s Child star vote by phone on Sunday after two of her contestants received the fewest public votes.
Sophie said it was ‘heartbreaking’, but added of Kelly’s decision: “At the end of the day she’s a judge and she has to do what she’s got to do.
“She made her choice and that’s that. I’ve got to deal with it.”
The 19-year-old said that she did not ‘blame’ the absent US singer ‘for anything’, adding: “It’s not her fault.”
She denied that she was neglected by Kelly, and that the judge was concentrating her efforts on Mischa, who also found herself in the bottom two.
“It’s not true. Kelly divided her time with each of us really, really well. She had a lot of passion for me and she really helped me out. I don’t think it was anything like that at all,” she said.
The barmaid, from London, who was voted off by all the judges, said that her mentor got it wrong when she said that she would let Sophie go because she didn’t want to win as much as her rival.
“It’s not true. Of course I do really want to be a singer and want to keep going at what I love… but I value her opinion,” she said.
She said she will not go back to bar work and will ‘keep singing’.
