Week three of The X Factor live finals and tonight the theme was rock songs. How would the 11 remaining acts fare…..?
Marcus Collins kicked off the show and did well with a rousing rendition of Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way?
Janet Devlin added a Celtic note to the Guns n’Roses classic Sweet Child Of Mine – and won praise from the judges once again
Sami Brookes sang Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time but Gary Barlow was not impressed, branding the performance ‘totally boring’
However there was praise from the judges for Rhythmix’s mash up of Kesha’s Tik Tok and Salt n’Pepa’s Push It – despite them questioning whether the songs were really rock
Sophie Habibis fared well with her slowed-down rendition of Bon Jovi’s Living On A Prayer…
…while Craig Colton kept up the good work with his version of the Oasis hit Stop Crying Your Heart Out
Frankie Cocozza was hoping to avoid another brush with the bottom two this week as he sang Primal Scream’s Rocks
Kitty Brucknell tackled the Wings hit Live And Let Die – which she began sitting at the piano…
…before taking to the stage for a performance that was high on pyrotechnics!
The Risk had a difficult week with one of their number suffering laryngitis, but their version of Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy still impressed the panel
Johnny Robinson also picked up good reviews for his performance of The Darkness’ I Believe In A Thing Called Love – which even got the seal of approval from Gary Barlow!
Finally Misha B sang Prince’s Purple Rain, and had some of the best reviews of the night
However the teenager’s behaviour came into question, with Louis and Tulisa suggesting that she had been ‘bullying’ other acts backstage
Sunday’s results show kicked off with a performance from former American Idol winner turned global superstar Kelly Clarkson
Meanwhile up and coming singer Emeli Sande joined Professor Green on stage during his performance
And Bruno Mars completed the trio of special guest performances
The results show saw more triumphs and disappointments – with Johnny unable to hide his delight as he made it through
Misha B was also among those who made it to next week following the public vote
Rhythmix looked amazed upon learning they would be back next Saturday
And Sophie Habibis also lived to sing another week
However two of Louis’ acts found themselves going head to head in the sing-off – first Sami Brookes who performed You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman…
…then Kitty Brucknell who sang Lady Gaga’s The Edge Of Glory
The judges’ verdict proved too overwhelming for Kitty who struggled to control her emotions as both Gary and Kelly voted to save her
Ultimately though it was Sami’s time to bid the show farewell as her mentor Louis Walsh sent her packing with his casting vote
The 31-year-old vowed to keep singing even if she never sold a million albums. And now the top ten remain….
