There's treachery and tragedy as the Bard's history plays return to the screen...

The BBC's Shakespeare festival continues with the second set of adaptations of his history plays, concluding the epic series begun by 2012's BAFTA-winning trilogy. Once again there’s an absolute cast of dreams: the new films (the three Henry VI plays, adapted in two parts, then Richard III) star Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Hugh Bonneville, Jason Watkins and Sally Hawkins – to name but a few. We begin with Henry VI: Part 1, starring Tom Sturridge as the young king and Sophie Okonedo as his sly queen. Cinematic, violent, tragicand tense, it's an enthralling adaptation.
