The grim story of the first British convicts sent to Australia…

This new seven-part drama from Jimmy McGovern follows a groupof desperate characters who inhabit a New South Wales penal colony in 1788, from the convicts serving their time to the men charged with keeping them in line.In this first episode we meet lovers Elizabeth (Ripper Street's MyAnna Buring) and Tommy (Julian Rhind-Tutt), who defy the camp's harsh rules and the threat of execution to be together, Tommy's fiercely loyal friend James (Russell Tovey), and Game of Thrones villain The Hound (Rory McCann) as the camp bully – he's just as terrifying here! A promising opener that sets the scene nicely.
