Eleven days of serious sporting excellence begins!
Diving, swimming, track cycling, badminton, hockey, judo and squash are the focus of attention in Glasgow as the Games get under way today. The first medals, however, will be decided in the men's and women's triathlons at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell, where England’s Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonny, and Helen Jenkins of Wales, are expected to feature prominently. But the biggest cheers could come poolside for home favourite Michael Jamieson, who swims in the men's 200m breaststroke. The 25-year-old Glaswegian has won four silvers in major competitions, including the London Olympics two years ago – can he strike gold at last?
