A quick chat with Kiefer Sutherland
24 star Kiefer Sutherland talks Jack Bauer, his actor dad Donald and being a Brit...

What have you enjoyed most about Day Seven?
"There’s been a perfect blend of familiar characters like Chloe and fantastic new people like Jon Voight as a bad guy. I loved having Kim back, too. It was some of the most emotional stuff we’ve done."

Your dad Donald is a huge fan of 24. Would you like him to play a cameo?
"I wanted him to play my father in season six. He was up for it, but it was a timing issue. He’s been so supportive with the show. It’s actually made me blush on occasion."

How would you like Jack Bauer to finally bow out?
"I’ve thought of everything from him dying to him becoming an elderly guy training someone younger. How it ends will require a lot of thought."

What would you like to do when 24 ends?
"Maybe a comedy, though it would have to be a dark comedy. I love things like Withnail and I, Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."

You recently got your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What was that like?
"Surprising and emotional. The whole 24 crew came along to watch. I felt my bottom lip twitch because it was much more than a star in the ground. It was about my family and the people that I’ve worked with being there at the same time."

What has been your own favourite 24 hour?
"One of the best was the day my daughter Sarah was born. I was 19 and I was dealing with such unbelievable extremes of panic and love. I have a picture of me holding her and the look of fear on my face is quite extraordinary."

Who has been your favourite co-star?
"Kevin Bacon really made me laugh when we did Flatliners and A Few Good Men."

Who are your heroes?
"Everyone from Churchill to Barack Obama. Wayne Gretsky, the former ice hockey player, is my sporting hero. With style and grace he changed the way the game was played."

You were born in London. Do you feel like an honorary Brit?
"I’ve always felt a very strong connection. One of the nicest things that’s ever happened to me in an airport was when I was coming through London. The man looked at my passport and said, ‘Mr Sutherland, you’re from London, you’re in the wrong line’. So I zipped right through and thought, ‘Damn right, I’m English.'"
