Marcos has locked himself in the hospital oxygen chamber and is reconfiguring his bomb's circuits for manual detonation. There's no way of getting to him until Chloe discovers that Marcos's American mother lives in New York and Jack orders her brought to the hospital.
Hastings has arranged for radiation sensors to be placed around Manhatten to detect the uranium rods, but the rebels are monitoring the CTU operation via the hospital's security system and formulate a plan to shut the sensors down and bring the rods into the city.
Using the oxygen chamber's intercom, Jack tries to convince Marcos to give himself up, but with no success, and even the pleading of Marcos's mother can't change his mind. Then Jack tells him that, if the radiological bomb goes off, he'll ensure his mother will die a slow death from radiation poisoning. This is too much for Marcos to bear and he finally emerges. But Samir orders Ali to trigger Marcos's bomb remotely and, as Jack tries to defuse it, he sees a timer counting down on the vest. Realising there's no time, he convinces Marcos to reveal the name of the man in charge - it's Tarin Faroush!
The bomb explodes, killing Marcos, but Jack survives and informs President Hassan of Tarin's betrayal, only to discover that he's missing with Kayla. Dalia calls her daughter's mobile and finally convinces her that Tarin is behind the plot. Kayla reveals their location, but Tarin catches her on the phone and becomes suspicious. Can CTU get to them in time?
Meanwhile, Cole and Dana return to CTU and endure a dressing down from Hastings; Dana is demoted and has to answer to Chloe. But Dana's not out of the woods yet and she receives a call from Wade's parole officer, Bill Prady, who insists on meeting her face to face...
