Grieving and stunned, Jack is determined to find out who killed Renee and when Chloe calls to commiserate she reveals that Renee had recognised someone from the Red Square mob - Bazhaev's men Jack catches up with the mobster at the Federal Court and threatens to kill his family unless he talks. Bazhaev claims that Moscow is behind the whole terrorist incident and that their mole at CTU, Dana Walsh, made the arrangements! At CTU, Jack forces Dana to talk, and she promises names all the way to the top as long as she gets immunity - she'll be dead without it.

Meanwhile, Logan meets with Novakovich. He knows the Russian is behind Hassan's assassination and forces him to return to the peace conference. The call soon comes through saying that Russia is willing to sign but Logan then discovers that Jack Bauer has been talking to Bazhaev. Bauer could ruin the whole deal!

Logan asks President Taylor to stop Jack and has to reveal Russia's involvement in the plot. The President is appalled and wants to halt the peace treaty, refusing to sit with a nation that could comply with such an undertaking, but Logan convinces her that the peace treaty is for the greater good, no matter how badly Russia has behaved.

Then Jack calls President Taylor wanting immunity for Dana. She travels to CTU to talk directly to him and tells him to stand down; Dana won't get immunity, the peace process is too important. Jack is to be taken to McGuire Air Force Base to be debriefed but, as he's escorted to a waiting helicopter, Jack takes an agent's gun, steals the chopper and heads towards the UN. Chloe is left with no choice, and orders her friend to be intercepted and forced down...
