*Bones screens on Thursdays on Sky1 and Sky1 HD*

Now into its fifth series, Bones follows FBI agent Seeley Booth (Angel's David Boreanaz) and forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance 'Bones' Brennan (Emily Deschanel) who work at the Jeffersonian institute, solving crimes using only the victims' bones for clues. They have always tried to keep things strictly professional – but their relationship looks all set to change…

At the end of series four, Brennan asked Booth to be the father of her baby, but that plan was blown apart when Booth was admitted for brain surgery. In the series finale, Booth and Brennan were married and owned a nightclub called The Lab... then Booth woke up in hospital. It was all just a dream – and Booth now doesn't remember who Brennan is.

As series five begins, it's six weeks on and Booth's told he's fit to return to work. While Booth and Brennan are forced to assess the changes to their relationship, it's business as usual for the pair, who are skeptical when Angela's psychic Avalon Harmonia (played by singer Cindy Lauper) claims that there are bodies hidden under a fountain. But they're surprised when 11 corpses are found exactly where she predicted. Does Avalon know more than she's letting on?

Cindy appears in the first two episode of series five, which also sees the return of fans' favourite Stephen Fry as psychiatrist Gordon Wyatt. Also returning to the Jeffersonian team are 'bug guy' Dr Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne), Dr Camille 'Cam' Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) and young psychologist Dr Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley).

Bones marks itself out from other US crime dramas by mixing the dream team of Booth and Brennan with pacy storylines, a little humour... and plenty of gore. Keep your eyes peeled for the show's 100th episode early next year, when leading man David will step behind the camera to direct.
