Horatio Caine’s CSI team is called to a chaotic murder scene where two people have been shot dead – Marvin Hill and Rebecca West. At first it seems as if Marvin has killed Rebecca before taking his own life but Dr Loman’s investigations prove that a bullet had entered Marvin’s head and bounced around inside before exiting through the entrance wound and killing Mrs West who had been driving by. It’s also soon apparent that the gun was fired by a third party.

Walter examines Marvin’s computer and finds that he’d created a social networking profile, pretending to be 19-year old former soldier named Sean, and he’d been having an online relationship with a 17-year-old girl called Ashley. The team trace the young woman but she denies knowing Sean. The family computer, however, reveals Ashley’s conversations with Sean, and with another teenager, Justin…

Justin is eventually tracked down and admits to killing Marvin. Ashley had arranged to meet ‘Sean’ face-to-face and had been pestered by Marvin ever since. Though they never met, Ashley had persuaded Justin to kill Marvin and had left him her father’s gun at a nearby hotel.

Analysis of the hotel’s security video footage, however, reveals that it wasn’t Ashley who had left the gun – it was her mother, Diana! She had used Ashley’s identity to live out a cyber fantasy, but Marvin had plagued her when he found out. She’d then persuaded an unwitting Justin to kill him. Now both will go to jail for Marvin’s murder…
