Sleepless in Miami

Horatio’s team respond to a 911 call by a Jason Reger who’s found deep in the Everglades seemingly burying the dismembered head of a man, later identified as Brandon Garrett. Reger claims to have been in a trance and unaware of having committed a murder – he doesn’t even know the man! Horatio notes that Garrett co-owned the Black Opal spa with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Stacey. Could she have been involved?

The team find bloody evidence of the victim’s dismemberment at Reger’s home, as well as the ‘magic fish’ business card of psychic Elena Manus. Reger had been seeing the psychic in an attempt to conquer emotional problems but it’s soon apparent that Stacey has also been using her services.

Natalia goes undercover to investigate Manus, with Ryan monitoring her from a nearby van, but Horatio suddenly realises they’ve been duped – Manu and Natalia have disappeared. The team track Natalia’s car to an abandoned warehouse where they find her disoriented and hallucinating. Believing she’s being attacked by her ex-husband, she takes several shots at her colleagues before they disarm her. She’s been drugged – just as Reger had been.

Horatio stakes out Manus’ office and, when she returns she’s is quickly arrested. The psychic confesses she’d been paid by Stacey to ‘suck the life force’ out of her husband and believes it had worked. She’d drugged Reger to dispose of the body.

The CSIs are sceptical, however, and Dr Loman soon discovers Garrett had been injected with a neurotoxin found in cone snails of the type kept at Stacey’s spa. Horatio and Delko confront Stacey but it’s her lover, Peter, who pulls a gun and confesses to the murder. He’d killed Garrett so he and Stacey could be together. Peter runs for it but is hit by a truck and killed as he flees the spa.
