Sopranos star Drea to join Desperate Housewives

Former Sopranos star Drea de Matteo is joining the cast of Desperate Housewives.

The actress, who played Adriana in the hit Mafia drama, will move to Wisteria Lane when the series returns in the autumn, reports Entertainment Weekly.

De Matteo, who also appeared as Joey's sister in the Friends spin-off, has been confirmed as a series regular and will head a new Italian family. It's believed she'll fill the role of feisty femme fatale vacated by Nicolette Sheridan's Edie.

Casting is now under way for actors to play her landscape gardener husband and uptight son.
