Spoiler alert! The first episode of the new series of Desperate Housewives has aired in the US, revealing whether Mike chooses to marry Susan or Katherine in the show...

At the end of the fifth series of the hit American drama, fans were left with a cliffhanger as Mike wondered who he should tie the knot with.

But the first episode revealed to US viewers that he chooses Susan, played by Terri Hatcher.

Desperate Housewives boss Marc Cherry told Entertainment Weekly: "I originally was going to have Mike marry Katherine, but as I went out into the world on vacation and just started talking to people they were so determined that Mike and Susan should get together; they were so insistent on it.

"So I started to think, 'What if I went that way?' And it occurred to me that it might be a more effective way to go as opposed to frustrating the fans for another year by keeping Mike and Susan apart.

"The fans demanded it in a voice so loud I kind of was scared to go against them."

Season six is expected to be on in the UK later this year.
